Creative Employment Access Society

is seeking a qualified Career Advisor to provide services on Hornby Island out of offices located in the Hornby Island Community School. The position is part time at one day per week. The successful candidate must be available to attend three weeks of orientation and training at the Job Shop in Courtenay.


You will be interested in this position if you truly enjoy helping others achieve their goals and have above average communications and interpersonal skills.


Duties:

  • Maintain positive and productive working relationships with clients

  • Meet with clients individually to:

 
  • conduct needs assessments

  • assist with written Return to Work Action Plans

  • create resumes and cover letters

  • refer clients to appropriate services or interventions

  • Orient and assist clients with programs and services provided by the Society

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client files

  • Provide case management services to clients

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline, Human Service Worker Diploma or equivalent education

  • Minimum of two years experience assisting people in a social services or educational setting

  • Good knowledge of local and regional labour market conditions and trends, and of the programs and services of relevant community agencies

  • Demonstrated experience facilitating groups of adults in a learning environment

  • Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the makeups of the Hornby and Denman Island economies, labour markets, and community resources available.
