Skills Training

Under the Skills Development Employment Benefits (SDEB) program offered by Human Resources Development Canada, EI eligible individuals may apply for financial assistance to attend vocational training.

This opportunity is for individuals who cannot find work with their current skills. The program is not available to those who can find work but would rather do something different. There are some restrictions on the type and length of training, so it is important to work with a Career Advisor in applying for this funding. For more details, check the North Island Employment Foundations site.

To be approved for this program, you must do extensive career research to determine the availability of jobs in your chosen field. This research is presented with your Action Plan which ultimately must be signed off by your Career Advisor.

After completing the Action Plan and research, you will make an appointment to present your application to North Island Employment Foundations. They have been contracted by Service Canada to evaluate training proposals and make a decision on whether to fund the training.
